Laydeez and Gentulmun! Allow me to introdoos an all-new piece of punctuation!

My wife, while reading Eats, Shoots & Leaves, came across what the author considered to be an abomination, praising the fact that it never really got off the ground (referring to the mark in question as a “newfangled and rather daft symbol”). But I consider this marvelous element of punctuation to be so important that I have not lost a moment in coding my Red Book to automatically incorporate it into everyday use.

What is this praiseworthy piece of punctuational providence, you ask?

The interrobang ?! !

You can read more about the interrobang at Wikipedia, but in short, it’s the invention of some marketer named Martin K. Speckter, and he brought it about in 1962 while under the impression that ads would look much better if the writers were able to combine all their punctuation into one easy symbol. So he stacked a question mark on top of an exclamation point and dubbed it “interrobang”.

Therefore, from henceforth and ever after, any time you type a question mark immediately followed by an exclamation point when composing an entry in this Red Book, it will automatically and seamlessly transmogrify itself into an interrobang when you preview or post your comment–whether you like it or not. And together, we shall cause people like Lynne Truss and Mystie Winckler everlasting angst in our ceaseless quest for punctuative conciseness.
