The second-Longest Day

29 Jul 2004  terribly early in the morning  Matt Winckler

Well, not even the second, actually. Not yet. I think the second longest at this job was 16 hours, but I’m not sure. The longest was 20. The longest day I’ve ever had, period, was something like 42.5 hours, but that was considerably more fun than this.

Anyway, I’m now in the middle of my 15th hour at work today, which must mean that the end of the fiscal year is approaching. Everything was going smoothly and I had hoped to be home by now, and then the inevitable happened–Delphi crashed. And lost what I thought at the time was about a half hour of work, but turned out to be more like an hour. (Maybe it was a half hour the first time.)

I would now like to tell all you budding young Delphi programmers out there that it would probably be useful to learn about streaming lists of records to file. I know it’s evil, but trust me–it will come in handy.

And to top it all off, the janitorial-supplies-replenishing lady (not even the actual janitor!) just wished me a good evening on her way out. (No, I’m not sure if I was trying to be funny either, but it seemed like a good way to end the post.)
