Dumb criminals!

29 Jul 2004  in the late evening  Matt Winckler

Here is a man bold enough to attempt to extort $17 million from a patent company, but dumb enough to instruct his victims to make the check out to his real name.

No comment needed, except to say that in the interests of saving yourself legal hassles in the future, secure your home Wi-Fi networks! That must have been an interesting morning for the dentist.

FBI team:
*bam bam bam* FBI! Open the door!
Dentist:
What the…hey! Leggo!
FBI agent:
Sir, you’re under arrest for attempted extortion affecting commerce. You have the right to remain silent…though I must say, you don’t look crazy enough to try to demand $17 million from a patent company. Do you happen to run an unsecured 802.11b network, perchance?
