Open source beats Palm with a rubber hose

I finally decided to take a HotSync cradle and the Palm Desktop software to work so that I could sync my Handspring Visor both at work and at home. So I got it hooked up this morning, performed the initial sync, and lo and behold, I’ve just discovered that the blasted Palm Desktop software wiped my handheld clean. Without asking.

This ticks me off. (It would really tick me off if I didn’t have my PDA backed up at home already.) What absolute morno at Palm decided it would be a good idea to use Palm Desktop’s “empty” version of my PDA’s contents over and above my PDA’s “full” version?! The fact that it did the format without even telling me about it (it happened this morning, and I only just discovered it now) just adds insult to injury.

I would like to note at this juncture that J-Pilot didn’t have this problem.
