Christmas eschatology

Matt Winckler
For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD will perform this. (Isaiah 9:6-7)
Here lie familiar words, but oft overlooked meaning. How can one read that and not be optimistic? Yet incredibly there are vast masses that fall into the error of premillennialism. What is the meaning of governments and peace that increase without end? How can this very Son reign upon the throne of David, ordering and establishing His kingdom with judgment and justice from the time of His birth forward, and yet still somehow come to utter ruination and failure upon earth at the end of history?
Is the zeal of the LORD impotent, that it might not accomplish what has been promised? Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar.
