Pop goes the toad

Now here is something you do not see every day, unless you live in upscale Hamburg, Germany. Toads in a city pond are overinflating themselves and exploding. Evidently the popping toads are making quite a mess, in addition to disturbing passers-by when their bursting entrails go flying several feet into the air. Nobody’s sure exactly why this is happening, but the reigning theory is that crows are pecking out the toads’ livers, which causes obvious problems when the toads try to inflate themselves in self-defense.
