Names that missed their calling

Costco sells a large box of plastic wrap. It’s really quite good, and so far one box has lasted us better than a year, and there’s still a lot more to go. But the plastic wrap is not what’s important here. What’s important here is the name, because I think this has got to be the best name for a film producer that ever existed. I cannot believe that a plastic wrap company took this name (as opposed to thinking of it, realizing its epic proportions, and handing it over to a movie company). This is on the level of “the Saran Rapper” as a name for a rapper. Nay, it is better even than that. Are you ready?

Polyvinyl Films.

How that name ended up on the side of a cardboard box filled with plastic wrap as opposed to the upscale studios of some transparent movie producer, I will truly never know.

3 vociferations follow:

  1. 23 hours, 44 minutes after the fact, Pat responded:

If I ever start an indie film company, I am going to steal that name. =)

  2. * * * * *
1 day, 3 hours after the fact, Tim G responded:

I’m gonna call mine Greasy Films. Or maybe Soapy Films.

And I forgot to mention, Matt, that Polyvinyl Films is no longer sold at Costco. Now it is Kirkland Signature Plastic Wrap. So once this box is gone (probably not for another year or more!), the name shall be lost to the mists of time.
