You see, already the ritual sacrifice has worked. No sooner do I step out of the office but my eyes fall upon the box that my iMac came in, a box that’s been sitting there for some weeks. And yet I never noted this before.

I should mention that at some point in the past few days or weeks, the slot-loading CD/DVD writer combo drive in the iMac failed. We just noticed it last week, and it’s under warranty, so it’s inconvenient but shouldn’t be an expensive inconvenience (except perhaps at the expense of any and all misplaced faith in the quality of Apple hardware).

So the following label, affixed to the exterior of the box, explained a lot, really.
