Infrared smackdown

27 Oct 2008  around evening time  Matt Winckler

We watched the following video last week in Patrol Procedures, illustrating the value of realtime intelligence support over the radio. The video is a recording of the FLIR imaging system aboard the helicopter. Be advised that there is definitely some violence in the video, but since it’s all just infrared, it’s only graphic if your mind fills in the blanks.

Makes me wish we had a helicopter.

2 vociferations follow:

  1. 12 hours, 26 minutes after the fact, Gary Paulson responded:

I was not expecting that at all! Wonder what would drive a guy to do that rather than take his chances in jail.

Re the helicopters, I remember our first night in our apartment in Huntington Beach, CA around 1980. Just moved there for school and we were all settled in for the night when we heard megaphones and helicopter blades.

I went out to see what was going on and the helicopter was announcing, “The party is over, leave the area or be subject to arrest”. Quite the introduction to our new ‘home’ for then next few years.

Pretty nice, huh? I will say that, having witnessed regular photographs of a nearly identical incident (except that it took place inside a pickup truck cab), infrared cleans things up a lot.

    Stinks to be that homeowner!
