Laundry Accomplishment
This being day three of the week wherein I resolved to myself that I would get back to the task of being domestically assiduous, I have finally accomplished something more than sweeping and loading the dishwasher. Today I not only did three loads of laundry, folding or hanging up and putting away each load completely, but also folded or hung up and put away the three loads that have been sitting on my laudry room counter for a week and a half! This marks a sign of progress for the week, indeed, but I believe this is also a landmark event in my laundering history. I can’t remember the last time I’ve actually completed a full round of laundry (clothes, whites, kitchen, towels — the whole smash) in a day, if I ever have, though that has been my stated goal for well over a year, possibly two.
Perhaps in accomplishing it I have overcome a mental hurdle and will continue to fully complete my laundry day. It’s rather pitiful that it has taken me so long.
Hoorah for the postpartum nesting urge! :) I never heard of it before, but I have had it now twice and it is wonderful — a nesting urge that actually comes when one is physically capable and, though sleep is short, coffee is allowable. Perhaps it is not so much a hormonal nesting instinct as much as it is a desire to reclaim “normal,” non-pregnant life and reclaim the order that was lost in the last month of pregnancy and first week postpartum. Whatever the explanation, I praise God for it.
