monthly fridge clean-out
Poker night is a great boon to my domestic assiduity. Not only do I have to clean the house for company, but it requires me to clean out my fridge every month.
When we bought our fridge, we bought the largest upright freezer-on-top fridge Sears sold. When we made the decision we hardly knew it would be necessary for such social functions. The cost difference was minimal and the spot for it at this house still has room on top and on each side. So, I can have a flat of 5-dozen eggs from Costco, a box of 2 gallons of milk from Costco, 2 9×13 pans of blueberries from Grandparents Winckler, a gallon jug of sun tea, a 12-pack of Black Butte Porter….and over one dozen containers of various leftovers from the month. There’s so much room in the fridge, that I’d never have to clean it out, were it not for poker night.
Poker brings 4-8 men of the church over to our house, each bringing his own six-pack (supposedly) of his favorite beer. Incredibly, they all want their beer cold, too. So, each guy walks in, showing off what he’s brought, making his way toward the fridge so it will stay cold over the course of 4-5 hours of card playing.
So, pull out the leftovers — hold your nose if you walk by the garbage! — consolidate and freeze the blueberries, scrub the shelves, reorganize the contents so 36-60 bottles of beer will stay cold for the gamblers.
So…back to actually doing it and not simply writing about it. Time to get those ziploc containers in the dishwasher and the blueberries in the freezer.
