solutions for swelling

Swelling is a common plight for pregnant ladies, especially as the end nears. My swelling this time has not been so bad, but with Hans I was exceedingly puffy for the last 2 months — for July and August. Over that summer, I learned several tricks for decreasing swelling that are worth passing on. These solutions may be used individually or all together.

  1. Of course, the most important thing is to drink as much cold water as you can throughout the day.
  2. Eat lots of watermelon.
  3. Soak in a cool Epsom salt bath for at least 45 minutes. Directions should be on the package.
  4. For localized swelling of feet or hands, apply ice for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Elevate your feet and ankles so that they rest above your knees and rest your knees above your waist for at least 45 minutes. The most effective position would be to have your legs at a 90-degree angle, lying directly up against a wall, but pregnant women are discouraged from lying on their backs.

I promise, they all do work!
