costume party

Tomorrow playgroup will be a costume party. We don’t do halloween, so the boys don’t have specific costumes to wear. I don’t think there’s any principled reason we don’t do halloween; being the children of our parents’ more straight-laced and tight-belted days, we never did halloween growing up, never felt deprived for having not done it, and see no reason to start now. Besides, Hans’ corn allergy makes the point of the whole exercise moot.
Still, I’m up for a playgroup party, though not up for it enough to purchase costumes specifically and only for that purpose. Hans has the necessary items to be a cowboy (jeans, bandana, hat, & stick horse), but then there’s Jaeger. I take inventory of our toy bin and his closet, and I think I have these options:
1. lame baseball guy — batting helmet and glove….that’s all.
2. oshkosh railroad guy — um, do striped overalls constitute a costume?
3. used car salesman (or maybe insurance agent?) :) — khakis, collared shirt, tie, jacket (i.e. call his Sunday clothes his costume); I think he looks like an old salesguy. :)
4. bedtime boy — pajamas and a stuffed animal.
5. lumberjack — jeans, red plaid flannel shirt, winter hat, and a toy wood hammer (for a very dull axe) or purple plastic saw.
Right now lumberjack is winning out. :)
On another note, Nestle’s Raisinettes and Hershey candy bars have no corn! :)
