Croup d’etat

Jaeger has had a runny nose for a week now. I assumed — and am still not sure it wasn’t — it was teething. Yesterday Hans’ nose was a faucet, but he acted normal. Last night, however, he woke up at 10 with a raspy, squaking seal cough. While I cuddled him, Matt quickly looking up bronchidas and whooping cough online, but it became quickly obvious that it was croup — I don’t know what we’d do without webmd.com! Both boys spent the night coughing, but it was mostly in their sleep and they weren’t too distressed. Jaeger’s cough wasn’t croupy, so I’m anticipating his cough to peak tonight. Both boys are now napping with the cool-mist humidifier running, and Hans started coughing again as soon as he began drifting off.

So, plans for today (playgroup) and tomorrow (lit class, AHG, 242 group) have been cancelled or are being amended. I have several people to call and a quiz and assignment to write up and a plan for our next AHG badge to make. However, this does at least mean I have more time at home this week for a few projects, like clearing through piles of stuff in the ever-accumulating-junk office and putting finishing touches on my new menu/grocery plan.

And, according to the ever-informative internet, croup is generally 3-7 days, average of 4-5, peaking at day 2-3, so we’re still planning on keeping our weekend plans of Friday’s casual dinner and a game with friends and Saturday’s Graceful Dinner.

So, we’ll have a slower week. Since the boys aren’t really feeling sick but for the flooding faucets of noses and they seem to stay asleep during the coughing (at least, it’s not making them cry or giving me any reason to be disturbed), it’s not really that bad here at the Wincklers.

Sorry to hear that! It’s good that they don’t seem to be feeling too badly! I had a week like that last week – sick kids so I couldn’t go anywhere, and it was amazing how much I got done! What is croup exactly?
