New Positions
If you’re terribly observant, you may have noticed my categories evolving over on the sidebar. I think I’m finished.
I’ve changed them from the format of “adjective + noun” (and a multiplicity of them) to domestic positions within a seventeeth century nobleman’s house:
Lady of the House: a well-mannered and considerate woman with high standards of proper behavior. She journals about life.
Mother: a woman who conceives, gives birth to, or raises and nurtures a child. She tackles mothering issues.
Nursemaid: a woman who is the custodian of children. She relates humorous stories about what the children do.
Governess: a woman employed [tr.v. to devote (time, for example) to an activity or purpose] to educate and train the children of a private household. She discusses education.
Housekeeper: One who performs or directs the domestic tasks in a household. She manages the household.
Charwoman: A woman kept on to do cleaning or similar domestic tasks. She does what the housekeeper deems to be beneath her.
Cook: A person who prepares food for eating. Her responsibility is the kitchen.
Parishioner: A member of a local church community. She meditates on the spiritual side of life.
Linguaphile: A lover of language and words. She was formerly an English major.
Schoolmarm: A woman classroom teacher, especially one who is regarded as strict or old-fashioned. She used to teach a classroom of middle school kids and pronounce classroom dictums.
So, instead of categories, I now have positions. It amuses me. :)

Very clever. So, where does Wife fit in? Or is it kind of implied in lady of the house and mother? :-)
I thought about that one, but a lady of the house would be the equivalent term for wife. “Lady of the House” can mean “a woman head of household,” but it also means “a wife who who manages a household while her husband earns the family income.” Lady is also “a title for the wife a knight,” which Matt has always been.
I also liked the idea of Personal Journal = Lady of the House = Wife; that is our primary position in the household, and Mother a sub-species of it. Perhaps I will make my link to Matt’s blog “lord of the house.” :)
‘Course…we’re renters right now, so there’s not really any lording to be had…maybe I’ll change that to “manor” in a year or so. :)
You former English-majors are so persnickety! :-) I barely thought about the format of my categories… And have never changed them. :-)
