School & Home

Although we now have turned our thoughts and efforts toward establishing a godly homeschool for our children rather than a K-12 classical Christian school, Matt and I remain convinced that a classroom setting is often a preferable learning environment to the home and that it is permissible for parents to delegate the majority of education to a faithful school, a school like this, whose philosophy of education includes the following:

The Lord has given ultimate responsibility for a child’s education to the parents. Not only are we to keep His commandments on our hearts, but also we are to impress them on our children so that they will be brought up in the training and instruction of the Lord. The school offers a service to the parents by assisting them in this responsibility. This is proper and good, for it serves as a more efficient way of utilizing the gifts the Spirit has given to the body of Christ. Parental involvement in a child’s education should not only be encouraged, but also considered necessary.

Such schools do not try to usurp the parents, but come alongside the parents to help them with their task. So although we may become a homeschool family, we will not be ideologically homeschoolers: we do not believe homeschooling is the only option for faithful parents. We also do not believe a K-12 classical Christian day school is the only option; hence, we are also free to pursue homeschooling.
