just curious…what happens during “circle time?” All I can think of is Duck Duck Goose…lol.

“Circle time” is, right now, perhaps not an appropriate name, since Hans is usually on the floor or sitting next to me…no circles! But it is the designated time for us to sit together and read, sing, and recite (he repeats Psalm 1 after me and we’re working on the Shorter Catachism). I was doing these things haphazardly every once and a while, and I wanted to be more consistant with it, so I lumped it all together and try to do it every day. It takes us 15-30 minutes, depending on what we do and how talkative Hans is and how cooperative Jaeger is. Despite the plan to make it more consistant, we haven’t done it this week even once…

I’ve taken the name from other places I’ve read about it, and I’m pretty sure Grace Grammar uses the concept as well — and they could actually make a circle! :)

I bookmarked that website…amazing and inspiring. I have tremedous respect for homeschooling moms, what a God honoring calling!

Tuesday and Friday are my light-cleaning and major-cleaning days respectively, but Thursday isn’t my at-home day – it’s my major errand day! So today, while you were hopefully walking, relaxing, and training your boys I was out – at the mall, TJ Max, and Winco – again at nap time. It went better than sometimes today though – I brought along a bag of cheerios to please the baby. “Circle time” sounds like a good idea… I’ve been wanting to set aside a part of the day to work with Judah on various educational sorts of things, but haven’t had much success at regularity, either! How am I going to homeschool when I have more kids, and the same amount of housework?!!

I haven’t reconfigured my week completely now that I’m not teaching (um, sorta, I guess). Is your errand day the only day you go out and you just do everything on that day? Do you have a regular social time, and if so do you make the errand day that day? I haven’t decided what to do on that front.

Circle time does frequently get forgotten or avoided; I should write the time it takes next to that item to. Having the average time of a chore (or a time limit to work on it) does help me not put it off:”ok, cleaning the bathroom is not going to take hours if I get down to business!” I’d say circle time goes anywhere from 5 minutes (sometimes all Hans will do is Psalm 1) to about 15 if we do all I have on my list, or 20-30 if we’re having a good time and Hans asks for more or starts bringing me books.

    Thursday update:

I did do circle time, I did not exercise, I did order the closet and drawer, I only spent 1 minute sorta moving a few things in the office, I did send feedback on the two paragraphs I’ve received so far (took only 5 minutes total), I did enjoy my boys and played outside with them a bit, I did my actual evening routine instead of my proposed evening routine (I cleared but didn’t wash the table, I started the dishwasher but didn’t wash the large pan).

No, unfortunately, my errand day is not the only day I go out – it’s just the day that I go all the way to the main shopping area in Clackamas. I have been known to make short trips to the local Danielson’s grocery store or Fred Meyer more than once a week, and I go to the library at least once a week, at irregular times – it’s only open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, for limited hours – and it’s only 5 minutes away, so it’s not a really hard trip. I don’t have any regular social time – I just occasionally schedule a coffee morning with friends, although I don’t have many who live very close by (as in, less than 30 minutes away). Hmm.. I guess this is kind of a response to your latest Geste. :-)
