Documented Cooking

Have you discovered The Pioneer Woman Cooks yet? If not, you are in for a treat. :) It’s a cooking photo blog. I had been merely an occasional browser at her blog until I saw this picture a couple months ago:

Practically immediately I invited the “play group mommies” over for a ladies-only dinner.

The Pasta Primavera was delicious and easy, and brim-full of in-season vegetables!

Andrea brought over some fresh basil leaves from her bush, and so my dish was even garnished. :)

So I was hooked. All Pioneer Woman’s recipes take few ingredients, and those are typically the very basic sort. Butter is key in her cooking. Lots of butter. Especially in her Cinnamon Rolls:

My picture is pre-frosted and I used my own favorite cream cheese glaze rather than her maple frosting:

For dinner one night I attempted her Beans and Corn Bread, except I only used her bean recipe and made my own corn bread. It turned out pretty well, but as Matt said, “It’s good, but it’s beans.” It sounded and smelled good, it did taste good, and it was satisfying, but it was difficult to sit and eat just a bowl of beans.

I remembered this picture

as I passed the produce aisle one day, so I bought 6 jalapeƱos.

Yes, Bacon-Wrapped JalapeƱo Thingies were a big hit. I tried to keep them warm for awhile in the oven and that slightly overcooked the pepper, but they were still very good and not biting hot at all. Some time I will have to try the same thing with mini sweet peppers.

Next I think I will try her Biscuits and Gravy:
