Happy Birthday!

Finally, my husband, who is probably the most responsible driver on the road, qualifies for lower car insurance premiums. That’s right, he’s hit the magical age of 25!
Nevermind that he’s never been unemployed (since 14!) but for a few months upon starting college and about 2 weeks between graduating college and moving back to the Tri-Cities. Nevermind that he has a wife and is raising two kids. Nevermind he that he occasionally leads Bible study where the only participant younger than him is his wife. Nevermind that it has been said of him at that same Bible study, “When Matt prays for you, you really feel like you’ve been PRAYED for.” Whatever that means. :) Nevermind that both his sisters look up to and respect him, and always have. Nevermind that he’s emotionally supported and sustained his wife through two long natural births and two miscarriages. Nevermind that he’s been adamant about being the provider for his family and adamant that any money I may make is strictly my own free-spending money. Nevermind that he has a reputation as a “serious young man.” Yeah, I know, only among people who watch from afar. Nevermind that he’s bought and sold a house, replaced two roofs, one kitchen, and two exterior doors. Nevermind that he has spent 3 years on the board to start a classical school and was the lead contact and administrator for the one year of Kindergarten we had. Nevermind that he has become quite the genial and social host, inviting people over for dinner several times a month and attempting to get poker parties on once a month. Nevermind that when he sees the right thing to do, he will change his course even if it means losing face. Nevermind that he actually corrects my grammar and spelling much of the time.
No, no, all of this and yet he has not arrived until this day. Today qualifies him. He is no longer in his irresponsible early twenties. He has made it. He is solidly 25 and suddenly responsible enough to both rent a car and drive responsibly in the eyes of the actuaries.
Boy, if the past 11 years I’ve known him have been his irresponsible years, I’m almost a little afraid of what is to come. :)
Happy birthday, my love.

Thank you. The word of the day is “stolid.”
Ahh, yes, those irresponsible years, pre-25. My husband also commented on his new ability to qualify for lower rates when renting cars. It seems his coworkers usually do the actual renting, because they’re generally old enough to qualify for lower rates. Here’s to responsible husbands and fathers and may God grant another generation of “serious young men!”
