Vacuum Cleaner Tip
If your vacuum cleaner isn’t working like it once did, it is not necessarily the poor thing’s fault.
Twice now in the past two years I have noticed my vacuum collecting some but not all of the visible particles as I pass over and over a spot. The first time, I thought I might have to have my vacuum serviced or replaced. The second time, I knew better.
The first time, after months of sub-par vacuuming, I finally remembered to mention it to Matt. He promptly removed the bottom of the vacuum to discover one of his own socks gumming up the works! The vacuum had been working hard that whole time — trying to get a sock through the pipe.
Do I vacuum with my eyes closed? I don’t know. I had no idea I had ever vacuumed a sock, but there it was, testifying against me.
The second time, but a few days ago, I remembered much sooner to mention it to Matt. He promptly removed the bottom of the vacuum to find a dust-covered pita chip fragment that was just barely too large for the pipe and was stopping it up.
The moral of the story for myself is to do a better job of picking things up off the floor before I go to vacuum. The moral of the story for you is to check the innards of your vacuum if it’s not suctioning as it’s wont.
A screwdriver is a much easier and cheaper fix than an official service, and perhaps all it needs. A screwdriver alone will do it, although a screwdriver wielded by a handy husband is much to be preferred!
