Wearing a shawl

Thursday  in the early afternoon  Mystie

I crocheted myself a long shawl or wrap (it’s a long rectangle, not a triangle) and finished it last night. I’ve been wanted to do a shawl for a year or so now, and I always thought it would be a useful accessory while pregnant in the fall and winter, when my winter coat might not fit and when I’ll be running warm anyway. Two weeks ago I finally got the bug to go down to JoAnn’s (the boys and I walked, it’s only 2 blocks from our house) and I found a decent yarn for the project at a decent price. I simply worked it up in rows of alternating large stitches (treble, quadruple, then half-double). The thing I like most about crochet is how quickly projects work up.

Before beginning, I looked up examples of shawls and wraps to determine what length and width I should make it. I also noted the pictures, because what I am nervous about is how to actually wear the silly thing. :) So, for my own reference, here are several ways to wear a shawl:

Now I just need to finish the cross-stitch part of my cross-stitch project; because I’ve decided that I’m going to teach myself how to tat and I want to start now, but I’m not going to start a new project until I wrap up the loose ends of other projects. :)

I made a shawl just recently, too! I did it in baby yarn of a lovely spring green color. :-) It worked up really fast, too. The pattern I used called for a special yarn that costs about $6 for 2 ounces. Uh-uh. But it looks nice in the yarn I did end up using, and I thought it’d be a good spring and fall cover up, being lightweight and easy-on/off.

Mine is triangular.. is yours? Thanks for the pictures, it’s good to have that for my reference, too!

No, mine is a rectangle, so maybe it is a “wrap.” :) I made it with “boucle” yarn, which is a thick, textured yarn, in a dark variegated red and purple color. It’s an open design, but with thick yarn, so it is more of an evening or winter wrap. I have a bunch of crochet thread in size 10, so I was thinking of making another lighter one in that.

WHAT????? Not start another project until you finish what you have????? My dear girl, the essence of being a stitcher is having just one more project started!!!! Ask your mom if I am right!!!

    LOL!

Good luck with the tatting. Tatting and I never connected well enough to get past that first trial piece….I’ve always admired it, maybe because I choose not to do it!!!!
