Budding Reader
Hans will be reading soon. I have not taught him much or spent much time working with him, but he is a natural early reader. He is interested in letters and spelling and reading, and he does his best to figure things out on his own.
Two weeks ago he was looking at our clock and said, “Mom, the word clock has an “l” in it.”
Today, he was coloring and wanted to spell Curious George. He sounded it out to himself and came up with “KRES JRJ.” His “J”s were half-J, half-G: backwards with the line at the bottom curve instead of at the top of the straight line. I think he thought of “J” with the sound /j/, but knew from seeing it spelled often that it was a “G,” so he split the difference. :)
