- eager to do math “like Kirsten”
- a fine, upstanding young gentleman with a crazy streak when cheerful
- a covert mutineer when in a foul mood
- transitioning to manhood, attempting to shake off his mother and shadow his father
- keeping his options for future employment open
- drawing recognizable pictures
- a planner and list-maker and schedule-lover — as long as it’s his plan and list and schedule
- learning to be politic in his answers
- no longer shy, simply rude, when he refuses to answer questions
- working hard to overcome his rudeness with polite kindness
- learning to apply Matthew 18 to his relationship with his brother
- enjoying our flower and vegetable gardening
- proud to open doors and carry bags (as long as they are heavy) for his Mommy
- a chef in the making
- fond of work, as long as it is a challenge (today he hauled two full 13-gallon garbage sacks up the stairs) and someone else’s responsibility (like anything involving tools, dishes, or water that he would not otherwise be allowed to get into) and not work of his own making (like picking up toys) or too simple (like taking laundry upstairs)
- likes doing things on his own terms, chafes under discipline, but ultimately exercises self-control and obeys orders; he is learning to be a soldier
