Look
what we picked up at Costco!

And if you can tell me a witty reply to “And what aisle did you find these guys on?” I would send you a prize….if I was that giveaway sort of a blog. But I’m not. You’d have my profuse gratitude, though. At least it’s generally meant as a positive comment. I do rarely receive negative comments, but the Costco clerk today was a mid-twenty-ish single — my guess — guy, who, after pulling the “Oh, I didn’t know we carried those! What aisle were they on?” followed it up with, “Oh, this isn’t the line for returns. I could help you with that, though, what’s the reason for return?” He tried keeping up the joke a bit too long, when he should have let it die at the first icily polite cough. The Jaeger glare got him in the end though: “I’m just joking, little guy.” And off merrily he tripped. Ha ha.
Ah well, just add to my to-do list: “Think of original, polite things to say to mothers of young children in the store when I am old.” My personal favorite, though it’s not original, is “My, what good helpers you have!” I always give that person and my boys a smile for that one. Yes, they are good workers, I affirm. And they beam and are reinforced in their role.
Well…how’s that for a tangent when all I was going to do was post a couple pictures? :)

I get that comment, too – the “what aisle did you find these guys on” one. I think sometimes I respond, “Sorry, but these are on special order,” or something like that. I doubt it’s original, but I like to emphasize that I’m HAPPY to have them. :-) I’m starting to get a lot of the “Oh, and you finally got your girl” comments from complete strangers. Generally they seem to assume that I had a third just to make one more desperate attempt to have a little girl. Oh well. I can’t wait until I can tell people, “Yep, just doing my part to shore up social security!”
Ha! Maybe the social security comment would be a good follow-up to the “My, what good workers you have!” :) Although I don’t want to devalue the boys’ helping to their faces.
Yes, I had forgot the “got your girl” comments. I think that is the most popular one these days….
I like the special order reply. Better than my current blank smile, anyway. :)
