Ornery Third Child

Ilse — in the womb, at least — is little miss attitude. I had a non-stress test today and she nailed the monitor on my belly several times. She does not like her personal affairs to be pried into. If Fran wanted proof of her movements and heart rate, putting a monitor on her was just the ticket to get it. She even managed to wiggle away from the monitor so that the machine started going crazy thinking she was gone. I had to move the monitor several times so it could continue to get a reading.

I didn’t mind going in for a test that I knew wasn’t going to show anything. I am grateful that Fran is being cautious and won’t let things slip by. It was fun to see Ilse be so obviously opinionated.

I’m getting a few signs that things are getting ready for delivery. I won’t go into the details, don’t worry, but I think she’ll be born within the week, maybe over the weekend or Monday. If I had to pick a “most likely” day it would be Monday or Tuesday. But that’s all pure speculation, really. It could be today, it could be next Friday, but she’s probably not going to be a week overdue. That makes me happy.

And I have a working dryer! That makes me happy too. The baby blankets are drying and the baby clothes are being washed. By the time I check the blogs on my feed it’ll be time to move the loads and I’ll start folding and putting things away, vacuum the baby room and arrange her closet and changing area, then tonight Matt can set up the crib, get out the cradle, make our bed up according to directions (clean sheet, shower curtain, clean old sheets, garbage bags under the pillowcases), and everything on my pre-baby lists will have been accomplished.

Sorry, I think I ruined Fran. She was so laid back before me and now she has become a bit of a worry wort! It will take her a few births without any problems before she calms down again I think. Hang in there. I’ll see you tomorrow, I hope!

Well, she told me at the beginning of this pregnancy that she was going to play it cautious because of my two previous losses. Then and again today she said she just wants to be sure that if anything happens it’s not going to be because she missed something. She’s had at least 5 normal, uncomplicated births since yours, although she did have another complicated one right around that same time. She did say that she’s been ordering more late-term ultrasounds after your incident, though. :)
