Ready for a Homebirth
My midwife set up all her supplies last night, and since we’re off to a slow start this morning, I thought I’d snap a few pictures of what our place looks like while we wait.

This is where we hung out last night. Matt’s paints are still out, that is the ball I sat on, and my chart is on the table. All the paperwork is filled out that can be at this point. It took my midwife probably an hour to fill everything out.

Our bedroom: changing table, bags of towels & blankets, laundry baskets, dishpan with the sterile supplies, and a box with clean clothes I set aside for myself and Ilse after we get cleaned up.

Fran’s medical supplies.

The doppler is next to the bed and ready to go. It’s already been used 3 times yesterday and I can use it if necessary.

Some towels and receiving blankets are on the changing table in our bedroom on top of a heating pad that is keeping them warm. You can also see a little tiny diaper on top of a pink cap and the black thing is a newborn scale.

The birth kit supplies and my box of set-aside clothes. The pink one on top is what I’ll wear for delivery (not wearing a hospital gown is one of the best perks of a homebirth!) and then inside are clean pajamas for me that are suitable for nursing and a little outfit for Ilse. There’s also a four-wick candle out for some low light and a nice scent if I feel like it. I find candlelight pleasant.
So, that’s a tour of our birth-ready house. Now all we need are some serious contractions to bring it about. Ugh.
