So how is that public welfare, anyway?

A California judge, ruling against homeschooling:

Judge Croskey ruled that: “A primary purpose of the educational system is to train school children in good citizenship, patriotism and loyalty to the state and the nation as a means of protecting the public welfare.”

Thank you for saying so. Our children will not be participating in your system.

By the way, I don’t think it’s homeschoolers going on shooting sprees around the country…..

But maybe the definitions have changed and the goal is to protect public welfare by increasing welfare’s roll. Oh! I thought the government wanted to keep the public safe, to promote the public good! But we’re actually talking about keeping the public on the government dole! Ahh….now it all makes sense.

Yeah, our children will not be participating.

For what it’s worth, Gov. Arnold is against the ruling and is doing what he can. :)

    Yeah; there’s no way it’ll stand. :)

And why couldn’t patriotism and good citizenship be taught at home? Is he implying that those who want to homeschool their children are not good citizens or patriots? That we would most certainly not teach those things to our children? UGH…you know it’s illegal to homeschool in germany-where they still hold to many of the nazi beliefs in their school systems….Should we try to be like them then?
