Three Months

Ilse is three months old and quite accustomed to this bustling world now.

She is still sleeping pretty well, although I think w just went through a growth spurt, so she added a feeding at 4am, but then didn’t wake up again until 6:30 or 7, sometimes even 8. And some afternoons she’s certain she can’t go longer than 2 hours without eating. So then I get into the habit of feeding without thinking and solving her fussiness with food, and then she thinks she can’t stop fussing without food. You know, this cycle happened with each of my children! When will I learn?

She’s just getting over her third little cold of her life and I’m almost positive she has baby eczema. I am going to try washing all her things in a gentler detergent and if that doesn’t help I’ll go completely off dairy. I have fair reason to believe it’s sensitivity to the laundry detergent, though.

She is starting to get particular about The Way Things Should Be. She protests vehemently if the boys make a sudden noise while she is eating. She prefers to eat in peace, thank you very much. This would also apply to Mommy laughing while she eats or any table end or book corner touching her. Do not disturb the eating princess, she insists. Unfortunately for her, her Mommy doesn’t take kindly to anyone under her authority trying to set the rules. I simply tell her to get over it if she wants to eat. It’s pretty unbelievable, but she does seem to respond to the serious-business Mommy-in-charge tone and stops squacking if I cut her off and reprimand her. I know. She’s three months. I’m a mean Mom.

I think she loves me, even so. After all, I am The Food Source.
