Transition Week
I think having babies has ruined that word for me. I tell my students to improve their transitions between paragraphs, but as I type the word (I tutor by email) a little shudder runs down my spine.
Nonetheless, a transition week it is. Or, a transition week I am determined to make it.
Front #1: Routine Establishment. We’ve had two weeks to ease back into it, but it’s time to stop the “easing” and just do it. It’s not a strict schedule and it’s not that difficult and it is enough to have my morning laid out enough to prevent my turning the computer on before the more important things are done. Because, if the computer goes on before the morning routine is finished, then little of it is likely to happen at all.
Front #2: Housework. The written routine does not have housework time assigned. I have three pockets of “free time” to work with and in which to get done what needs to be done that day, and that does vary. What needs to be done this week is …. everything. I’ve been tidying, but it’s clearer and clearer every day that the house actually needs to be cleaned. Imagine that. And Ilse hasn’t been sleeping in the cradle, the cradle is serving as a clean-laundry receptacle. And the bathrooms apparently need to be cleaned more often than every 5 1/2 weeks. (“What, why is this bathroom so dirty, didn’t we JUST make it spic and span for the delivery?!”)
Front #3: Me. Six weeks comes this week. No more “recovery” excuses at all. I gave myself closer to three months with the boys, mostly because I was under the illusion that nursing would melt the pounds off. Yeah. Not so much. Even my optimistic self can no longer procrastinate eating right and exercising under that excuse. :) But last year I found exactly what I needed and I’m reading it again to get my motivation up: French Women Don’t Get Fat. Matt scoffs, but despite the fact that it’s written by a Frenchwoman, it is pretty much a common sense non-diet. I prefer to think of it as an Old World approach to food and moving. Anyway, this week it’s time to finish the books and outline my plan to begin next week.
So, I think that’s enough, really, don’t you?
