Vacation 2008: Rockaway Beach, Oregon

Monday  around evening time  Mystie

The long-awaited vacation post finally appears!

Yes, I know you don’t really care, but nonetheless, it seems obligatory. And I have some cute pictures. :)

We spent six days at Rockaway Beach with two other families and we had a great time. We had three days of good weather and even times of sun, two stormy days, and a day of showers; not bad for the Oregon Coast in early June.

Junk food was consumed, games were played, conversation was had…even amidst the 9 children. Not too much sleep was taken, of course, especially by those with small infants. I’d say we got 3-5 hours of interrupted sleep each night, not to mention the fact that I don’t sleep well in unfamiliar places and I am generally not able to sleep in. There was, however, plenty of coffee and Diet Pepsi.

We went to the Seaside Aquarium, Mo’s Seafood Restaurant, Tillamook Cheese Factory, and of course made many sallies out to the sand and water.

The boys absolutely loved the beach — sand and water is, of course, a favorite combination. Jaeger preferred the wet-sand play while Hans braved the ocean repeatedly.

We, unfortunately, forgot our children’s games, but the kids did create a few of their own with the games provided by the house-owners. And, unfortunately again, I would lay odds that no one will be able to play those games again — Yatzee and Chinese Checkers pieces were scattered far and wide by the end of the week.

Here are the two adorable sleep-snatchers, appearing for all the world like smiling is all they ever do. Love them well, but believe them not.

I am a beach person, and I don’t care how cold it is, I must walk in the ocean. I was able to take several solitary walks along the beach, skimming the water and enjoying the peace of the ocean roar, so I call the vacation a success.
