Word of the Day

Thursday  in the early morning  Mystie

I now check my email online with gmail, and I get a Word of the Day from Dictionary.com displayed on a widget above my inbox. Today’s word was was an excellent one:

tutelage \TOO-tuhl-ij; TYOO-\, noun:
1. The act of guarding or protecting; guardianship; protection.
2. The state of being under a guardian or tutor.
3. Instruction, especially individual instruction accompanied by close attention and guidance.

Tutelage is the term for what I desire for our children. Yes. Exactly.

Now I have a word, an apt word, a connotative word.

Mot juste.

3 vociferations follow:

  1. 3 hours, 50 minutes after the fact, Matt Winckler responded:

As far as words of the day go, I prefer “squamous”, myself.

Still looking for an opportunity to use that one aptly.

  2. * * * * *
4 hours, 52 minutes after the fact, Geoff responded:

Oh come on I learned this word from video games. :|

  3. * * * * *
5 hours, 9 minutes after the fact, Mystie responded:

Did I say I didn’t know this word? I did not mean to imply such a thing. Of course not! I’m just saying I forgot it and it was presented to me at a timely moment. :)

Squamous, however, I did have to look up. :)
