Written Routine

Thursday  in mid-afternoon  Mystie

“Now my day is all written down,” said Toad.

So, I’ve figured out our ideal routine. [play laugh track here]. Ilse, of course, fits in perfectly and always eats precisely every 3 hours, except for sleeping from 9pm-6am every night. [play laugh track here]. I always know what is for breakfast and lunch and it only takes 2 minutes to get them ready and the boys eat what is given to them without horsing around at the table. [play laugh track here]. Dinner is always ready at 5:30, half an hour after Matt has come home to a clean house, a cheerful wife, and studious boys flipping quietly through picture books on the couch. [play laugh track here].

So, if you need further laughs, here it is:

* 6 - Ilse up, changed, fed; I read the Bible while I nurse her.
* 7 - Boys up, dressed, and tidy their room.
* 7:30 - Breakfast, read aloud a chapter of Proverbs and Psalms while they eat.
Clear and wash table; Empty dishwasher.
* 8 - Circle Time:
Pray (each person)
Sing
Recite
–Apostle’s Creed
–Catechism
–Scripture
Read a Bible Story
Read a few poems
* 8:30 - School Time:
Counting (use various items from around the house; Hans to 20+ & Jaeger to 10)
Flashcards (10 single-letter phonemes & numerals to 20 for Hans, 10 letters & 0-9 for Jaeger)
Writing (practice three letters & 1 numeral; Jaeger may color)
* 9 - Free time, feed Ilse
* noon - Tidy messes, prep lunch, feed Ilse
* 12:30 - Boys eat lunch, I read aloud from a non-picture-book story
* 1 - Quiet time; I eat lunch
* 3 - Play time; feed Ilse
* 4:15 - Boys tidy their toys
* 4:30 - Read picture books
* 5 - Matt home, boys have quiet play, I fix dinner
* 5:30 - Dinner, read from the Gospels
* 6 - Boys with dad, I feed Ilse & clean the kitchen
* 7 - Boys tidy and maybe read a book
* 7:15 - Boys’ bedtime
* 7:30 - A calm descends on the household…
* 9 - Feed Ilse, change, jammy, and put her to bed
* Put myself in bed before 10.

Matt came home the other evening and I showed him my new written routine. He glanced over it with approval, and noted that at least there was nothing at 5pm (at the time there was not), since it was 5pm and, well, nobody was doing anything. Silly Matt, don’t you know? All new schedules begin next week.

“Tomorrow! I will do it Tomorrow!” shouted Toad.
