The boys and I were unloading groceries from the back of the car. The snow was melting, but there were still patches of ice in places. Jaeger came bounding back to the rear door after taking in a Costco package of coffee beans. His foot came down hard on a patch of ice and he started slipping; it looked like he was going to fall hard on his backside. But about half-way down he bent his knees and recovered, standing back up without having hit the pavement.

“Oh,” I exclaimed, “Nice save!”

Hans came around the corner, remarking, “Well, God must have saved him, because you can’t save yourself, you know.”
