A Home-Educating Life
A few times the last couple weeks I pulled out the camera and took pictures in the middle of our school time. I had had a couple conversations with friends about homeschooling boys, and I wanted to capture scenes of what it looks like at our house. Ilse definitely prefers sitting at a table in a way the boys never have. This year, instead of trying to make them work at a table, I provided them several acceptable options on the positions they can assume during school time, and since then they have only done math at the table, and then often standing at the table rather than sitting.
I let the boys each try taking a picture of me, too, during Circle Time, but none turned out.
Math
Competing with a timed drill.
Soaking it all in.
“Making Ten”
Pleased as punch to be doing his first addition lesson.
He’s trying to explain that he just wanted to count some manipulatives, I’m sure.
Circle Time
Coloring while listening to the Bible passage.
Following along with a presidents song.
Spelling
Because a man just isn’t dressed unless he has his sidearm.
Did you know they now, finally, make washable dry-erase markers?!
Reading
The dinosaur set-up was done during Circle Time while he listened.
P.E.
After all, a day is not complete until it contains at least one battle.

Awesome! I LOVE the photos!
By the way, I forgot to tell you yesterday congrats on your “second first book”–so exciting!
Awesome pictures! I’m almost sad Second Son is 6.5 years younger than First Son and will not be battling any time soon (at least not in an acceptable way).
I have not had luck with the washable dry erase markers. The washable dry erase crayons are a different story. I love them! They wash right out of sheets and clothes and are beautiful on the whiteboard.
love these pictures! your days look wonderful.
Yes, well, keep in mind these are still photos and not videos. You can’t hear the noises that the boys don’t even realize they are making and the screeches Ilse emits when something falls off the table and Knox’s new favorite noise to make sounds like he’s choking. :) Ilse copy-cats me during spelling, so I count it as her vocabulary lesson.
And, like Brandy, everyone gets numerous remonstrances during Circle Time. :)
What a great glimpse into your day!
And I am off to buy washable dry erase markers now- I had no idea they existed! :)
