Mommy: “Hey, Jaeger, guess what? When Daddy digs up part of the pasture, we’re going to leave a dirt area for you boys — you kids — to play in.”
Jaeger: “Yay!” …. he runs to the living room where Hans is reading.
Jaeger: “Hans! When Daddy digs up part of the pasture, he’s going to leave us some dirt to play in!” Hans: “Oh. And then we’ll put up a fence around it and hang a sign that says, ‘Hans’ and Jaeger’s Private Conversation.”
Jaeger, without replying, runs back into the kitchen.
Jaeger: “Mom! When Daddy digs up the dirt, Hans and I will put up a fence and hang a sign that says ‘Hans’ and Jaeger’s Private Conba– Contabaish– Conberai– — Talking Place. Hans said Conbernernation, but I don’t know.”
having a dirt pile is great!!! My boys just sit there digging and pouring and scooping! I recommend special “dirt” shoes though!!
What kind do you use? The boys have croc-like shoes that are great for the park with water-sprayers, but they leave their feet absolutely filthy because they make their feet sweat and that mixes with the dirt.
I’m looking forward to having a designated dirt area, because right now all dirt is fair game and I’d rather have plants in the dirt around the yard! :)

Your boys are so funny.
rubber boots! they can put them on themselves, take them off to dump out the dirt, they are great! I even have a pair for running outside when it is wet! I see them used at goodwill all the time over here. so if you have a hard time finding some, let me know their sizes and I could pick you up several pairs!

Thanks, Zoae! That’s a great idea! Rubber boots are much scarcer on this side of the state. If you happen to find any in a 7-8 or 12-13 or 1-2 range, I’ll pay you back! :)
