Playing with Picasa
I blame it on Elly. She’s thinking of buying a computer and brought up the subject of photo organization, a subject that has been on my mind for 2 years. It dawned on me today that photo organization is one of those projects that grows and grows — the longer you wait, the more photos you will have to weed through.
My computer only has our photos through 2008, and we’ve been without a working camera for several months. Now we have a camera again and a new baby coming, which means an influx of pictures is imminent. So, I thought I’d at least take a look at how I might organize things on iPhoto and if Picasa would be useful. Before I knew it, my photos were organized! Really! It wasn’t that big of a deal after all because the technology actually worked and worked together.
And now I have an online album that will not only keep the relatives happy (I hope), but might even make it easier to post pictures, too.
Let’s see
Yup, pretty easy.

Mystie, this picture is toooo funny!! I love it!
Picture organization is one of my on going projects too. I am now facing 25 years worth of paper photos that need to be scanned into computer memory for posterity’s sake. It seems overwhelming at times, and I keep toying with the idea of splurging and having a professional do it for me!
Ha! Great picture! ;)
Well, I’ll take the heat. :-) Good for you… if only 1000 pictures were so easily weeded and organized..
Connie, yes, at least I’m glad we went digital before Hans was born. We’ve since lost any pre-Hans photos (if we even took any….), but all baby pictures are on the computer and much easier to manage than boxes of film and glossy prints.
Elly — Well, today I copied our picture archives onto the Mac and went from ~200 to almost 3,000 pictures. And I’m still missing 2007. And there are suspicious gaps in the dates, although it is certainly possible that I really did go for 3 months at a time without taking pictures. :) Mostly I have several hundred photos of each of the children’s first three months, and then smatterings here and there in between. Anyway, I think it will take me some time to slog through the archives. It’s a sitting-down job, though, that’s good for cloudy days, and now that it’s started there’s definitely a momentum going.
So far it’s seemed like a job that appeared to be more difficult and time-consuming that it has turned out to be. I hope once you start in on yours it’ll be the same! Maybe you should wait for that last-month-of-the-pregnancy-and-you-don’t-want-to-do-anything stage, too. :)
