Exodus Books: Review & Win!

Exodus Books - Educational Materials, New and Used Books, Family-Friendly Literature, and More!

Exodus Books, my favorite homeschool bookstore (even if it is 4 hours away), has a great selection of books and materials, new and used, at good prices with the bonus of tax-exemption (and when your state’s sales tax is almost 9%, that’s a big deal) and cheap flat-rate shipping. On top of that they are friendly, helpful, and very prompt in their service, both in responding to emails and in sending out your order.

Well, these fine people are now running a year-long review-seeking contest. Every month they are giving away a $25 gift certificate to both those who write the most reviews and the best review, as well as a $15 prize to a random reviewer.

I find this contest particularly incredible, as one of the reasons I always check Exodus when I’m thinking about a material or book is because their editorial reviews are pretty much the best out there. The owner and his employees are either homeschooled or homeschooling or, in the owner’s case, both. And I trust their perspective, as well. So, I was surprised that they were seeking customer reviews since that seems superfluous to their own content. However, they are.

Ok, ok, so I admit that I held out passing along this information until I took my best shot at winning either or both the most reviews or the best review. Now I feel a little sheepish and embarrassed because I did win both!

Go forth and do likewise.

I did think my review of TATRAS (Teach America to Read and Spell), my favorite phonics program, was one of my best, and it won against some stiff competition. I’ll post it here sometime soon as well, but Exodus now carries TATRAS, and if you are in need of a phonics method, I don’t think a better one exists, personally. However, it is one of those things that if you have something that’s working for you, don’t jump ship. :)

And when you’re in the market for next year’s books, make sure to add Exodus to your sources to check.

Hey Winner!! Congrats!! I’m especially pleased you won with TATRAS, so I can take a little slice of credit for having foisted it on you so long ago. :D

  2. Von says:

Oops, I guess foist isn’t really the word I should use since it means something inferior or fraudulent, and that certainly doesn’t apply. But I did sometimes force it upon you.

  3. Mystie says:

Yup, you get the credit for finding it and foisting it, first! :) I’ve done my part so far by foisting it onto 3 other families, well, probably it was yours and Kari Bennett’s recommendations more than mine. :)

  4. Mystie says:

Oh, I didn’t remember whether or not you used it with me. I thought you found it after I was reading.

Frank still gives his phone number in the instructions so you can call him if you have any questions, but now the pack has upgraded to a DVD demonstration instead of a tape. :)

Congratulations! :-) I started using TATRAS through your recommendation as well. :-) (unless I was counted in the 3 other families already) I still wonder if perhaps others might have been better (doesn’t one always wonder that?) but it is very easy to understand and work and doesn’t require a lot of teaching aids, etc. So it works for me!
