Project Simplicity — Week Four: Food

The fridge and pantry was something I had to do this week anyway, to prepare for my monthly stock-up grocery trip, so I was pleased that it was also the assignment for Project Simplicity at Simple Mom.

If it had just been me, I would have cleared out the fridge, but not cleaned it. As it was, I actually pulled out the shelves and gave them a much-needed scrubbing. Then I blackened up my shelf labels (I just write directly on the shelves with a Sharpie) and now every time I open the fridge I get a little bit of happy.

I also took the opportunity to do a few small, simple, but big-impact tasks I needed to accomplish: rearrange and sort the pantry shelf of plastic storage containers, update my neglected freezer inventory list, and find a good home for the onions.

That is my oats, whole wheat flour, rice, and new this month: brown sugar in Costco size. I suppose it’s because I grew up in a large family, but I just find it satisfying to buy food ingredients 25 pounds at a time.

I like to buy huge bags of food too. I guess it makes me feel prepared and I love not having to shop very often.
